The Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (MBRAS) develops and disseminates knowledge about Malaysia, Singapore. and Brunei by publishing a journal and two book series, and by sponsoring public talks and other activities. Founded in 1877, the Society survived the Pacific War, the Japanese Occupation, and the transition from colonialism to independence with support from members interested in the history, culture, and societies in the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, and northern Borneo.

MBRAS invites anyone interested in becoming a member to complete the membership application form and send it as an email attachment to the Society’s administrative officer at info.mbras@gmail.com. The Honorary Secretary will provide a proposer and a seconder and submit the application to the MBRAS Council for approval.

Payments for membership renewal fall due on the first day of January each year. Payments submitted after April 30th will incur a 20% surcharge to cover the cost of sending a copy of the journal outside of our normal mailing arrangements.

The Society strongly encourages use of online bank transfers for payment of membership dues to the Society’s account with Maybank in Malaysia. Members in Malaysia can use DuitNow to make payments to our Malaysian account. Members in Singapore can use PayNow to make payments to our Singapore account. Members in other parts of the world can use WISE or other international money transfer organisations to make payments to our Malaysian bank account (details below).
